Gavin’s aesthetic is determined by an idea of disorder and deconstruction, pulling apart the ordinary to put it back together in extraordinary ways. East Meets West is an evolving body of work that investigates the harmony and contradictions of cultural aesthetics within Japanese society and how it compares itself with the West.
The work attempts to uncover the esoteric nature of the Japanese character and philosophies, trying to reconcile the Western perception of contradiction and duality. These are Illustrative and playful mixed media limited edition artworks created through the use of found imagery, collage, screen print, sculpture and photography.
