DIE WEIẞE ROSE, the namesake of this piece, was an intellectual anti‑Nazi resistance group active in the early years of WWII. This small, courageous collective wrote, printed and distributed their pamphlets throughout Munich, later reaching other southern German cities through clandestine couriers. Over time, the white rose has come to symbolise peaceful resistance against authoritarianism, Nazism and Fascism.
Drawing on the visual language of historic European decorative arts, the florals are sourced from the German Wallpaper Museum in Kassel, referencing early paper‑based wallpapers and the restrained techniques of 18th‑ and 19th‑century design. Free from later embellishment, the imagery reflects a period when pattern, pigment and symbolism carried a quiet authority. Set against a Thuringian Blue ground, the off‑white florals evoke interiors of another era - a reminder of inherited taste, cultural memory and the fragility of what endures.
