The Eyes Have It is a series of seven paintings that use the human eye as a starting point for exploring perception, memory and visual culture. Built through layers of poured and manipulated acrylic paint, each image emerges from a balance of chance and control. Influenced by Pop Art, psychedelic illustration, fashion photography, album covers and the imagery of Alan Aldridge, the works blur the boundary between representation and abstraction.
The eye functions as both subject and visual device, allowing an exploration of colour, identity and the act of looking itself. The forms shift between recognisable anatomy and abstraction, appearing at different moments as irises, planets, vinyl records, microscopic cells or distant galaxies. Viewers are continually suspended between recognition and uncertainty.
As a symbol, the eye suggests observation, self-awareness and consciousness, while also reminding us that perception is never neutral. Every act of seeing is shaped by memory, experience, culture and desire.
Rather than asking simply what we see, these paintings question how we see, and whether the world revealed through one eye can ever truly be the same as that revealed through another.
