Magnus Gjoen explores the seductive surface of power and the fragility beneath it, using a nineteenth‑century portrait in seventeenth‑century dress to show identity as performance. Layered Ikat, floral and camouflage patterns, a ceremonial sword, and playful Mickey Mouse ears collapse spectacle and survival, questioning whether authority rests on theatre as much as force. The work is a sharp collision of past and present where beauty, vanity, and conflict remain timeless.
