This work explores grief, compassion, and emotional restraint through a gilded skull adorned with symbols of beauty, fragility, and mortality. Set against a gold background associated with divinity and permanence, the skull becomes both relic and mirror, inviting reflection on the emotions that connect us.

At its centre is the phrase WEEP. WON’T. YOU. Deliberately fragmented, the words can be read in multiple ways: as an invitation, challenge, plea, criticism, or expression of disbelief. The ambiguity is intentional, asking the viewer to complete the sentence and participate in its meaning.

The work questions our relationship with grief and empathy. In a culture that often values detachment, speed, and emotional control, weeping can become an act of resistance. The imagery scattered across the skull suggests lives lived, relationships formed, and losses endured. Like flowers left at a grave, these symbols become markers of attachment and memory.Rather than presenting sorrow as something to overcome, the work recognises weeping as a profound expression of connection. To weep is to acknowledge loss, recognise another’s pain, and affirm love. Whether a plea for empathy or a challenge to indifference, the answer remains with the viewer.
